DAILY PLAYGROUND

As a Software Engineer, Backend (Database) you will write code for the heart of our next-generation distributed database:
  • Maintain, improve and extend the code base of our Open Source CrateDB database
  • Ensure quality through test driven development
  • Think about performance and security as keys to build sustainable features
  • Do research on state-of-the-art data crunching techniques
  • Fun working together with a team on new and edgey technology
  • Working in a mostly asynchronous environment with few meetings
  • Contribute to open-source libraries or tools we use

YOUR SKILLS

  • Extensive professional experience as a developer (at least 5 years)
  • Solid knowledge and practical experience with Java
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Comprehensive understanding of databases and distributed systems
  • Proactive and result-oriented
  • Thinking out of the box and not blind to the shortcomings of one's (own) company
  • Experience with test driven development

NICE TO HAVE

  • A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design
  • Experience with asynchronous programming, Netty, Elasticsearch, Lucene, Big Data and Map Reduce (Hadoop, Hive, Presto, Pig), databases (Postgres, MySQL, Oracle, ...)
  • Experience with SQL as a user or developer of SQL databases
  • Open Source Contributions (if applicable, please send us your Github Account etc.)
  • Work experience with agile methodologies, such as Scrum, Kanban, etc.
  • Experience with CrateDB
